Pelicans Hockey Club Junior Section offers safe, effective and child friendly equitable hockey coaching for all children aged 6 to 18.
Pelicans HC Equity Statement
Pelicans Hockey Club is committed to the principles and practices of equal opportunities for all club members. Coaching, umpiring and playing is available to all members of the community, regardless of race, gender, colour, disability, marital status, sexuality, age, occupation, religion or political opinion.
Coaching for the U9's, U11's and the U13's takes place at Pelicans Hockey Club Astroturf pitch at Lynnsport on Saturday Mornings.
Sessions start at 08:45 and finish at 10:15.
Junior training runs from September to Easter.
Mens Colts train on Thursday evenings at Pelicans from 19:00 to 21:00.

Mini and Junior Rules
The Pelicans Hockey Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect, be encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with the Youth Development Officer.
As a member of the Pelicans Hockey Club you are expected to abide by the following Mini and Junior rules:
- All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions
- All members must respect opponents
- Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late
- Members must wear suitable kit - (shin pads are compulsory, gum shields are recommended) - for training and match sessions as agreed with the coach/team manager
- Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly
- Junior members under 16 are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions
- Junior members are not allowed to consume illegal substances of any kind on the club's premises or whilst representing the club
- Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol on the club premises or whilst representing the club unless the circumstances deem it to be legal under British Law and the parent or carer is present.
Code of Conduct for Parents/Carers
- Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them
- Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials
- Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results
- Never force your child to take part in sport
- Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all
- Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes
- Publicly accept officials' judgement
- Support your child's involvement and help them to enjoy their sport
- Use correct and proper language at all times
- Parents/Carers MUST accompany their children to the playing area and ensure that the Coach(es) and/or Official(s) are present rather than just "drop them off" in the car park.

Junior Section Job Descriptions
Head of the Juniors
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Pelicans HC Junior Section
- Ensure that the Pelicans HC Child Protection Policy is followed
- Ensure that the Clubmark portfolio is kept up to date
- Ensure that Coaches have adequate insurance cover
- Organise equitable coaching opportunities for children U18
- Responsible for the Junior section financea
- Attend county Junior hockey meetings as required
- Organise junior tournaments hosted by Pelicans HC
- Responsible for Player Membership Records
- Maintain School/Club link with King Edward the Seventh School
- Implementation of Club Child Protection policy
Boys/Girls Organiser
- Responsible for informing players of County Trials
- Responsible for entering teams into tournaments and arranging fixtures
- Responsible for collecting annual subscriptions and match fees
- Liaise with the Pelicans HC Head of Selectors regarding junior players playing in Senior Teams
- Ensure that coaching is organised to the best possible standard
Team Manager
- Select player in line with the Club Selection Policy
- Organise Teams and notify players for matches
- Ensure kit and equipment is available on match days
- Provide First Aid and record incidents in line with the Club Procedures
Girls/Boys Colts Manager
- Responsible for team selection
- Organise fixtures
- Provide First Aid and record incidents in line with the Club Procedures
Junior Section Treasurer
- Maintain player details
- Maintain Junior section finances
U9 Organiser
- Responsible for team selection
- Organise home tournament at least once per season
- Provide First Aid and record incidents in line with the Club Procedures
